LibreELEC (Krypton) v8.0.0 RELEASE

LibreELEC (Krypton) 8.0.0 has arrived after a long gestation period encompassing 10x official alpha and 3x beta releases in addition to 200+ nightly milhouse builds. Based upon Kodi v17.0, our 8.0.0 release contains many small refinements to our user experience and a complete overhaul of the underlying OS core to enhance stability and extend hardware support. For a description of new features and changes in Kodi please read the official Kodi v17.0 release notice.

Changes since 7.95.3 include:

Fix for TVheadend issues in the WeTek Play 2 DVB driver
Fix for interactive governor causing slowdown issues on the WeTek Core
Fix for missing Bluetooth “connect and trust” option when pairing

LibreELEC (Krypton) v8.0.2 MR brings an update to Kodi v17.3, improved support for Intel WIFI and Bluetooth devices, and minor nip/tuck fixes for user-reported issues since v8.0.1. Kodi v17.3 addresses a subtitle (zip file) handling vulnerability that has been widely reported in the media.

Changes since 8.0.1 include:

Fix for zero byte AddonsXX.db files
Fix for connman failing to enable ip_forwarding when using the hotspot feature
Fix for minimum Audio Engine sample rate in Kodi (allows forced 48KHz)
Fix for suspend issues with CX231xx DVB devices

Fix for 720p > 1080p resolution switching on Amlogic aarch64 devices

KODI 17.3

Kodi (Krypton) 17.3 contains several fixes to improve stability and usability. It also contains a notable security fix for an issue with subtitle zip files. Kodi 17.2 had a short lifespan after issues were found in the release. More information can be read in the official Kodi 17.3 release notes.

LibreELEC (Krypton) v8.0.2.1 is a limited release for the WeTek Hub with firmware and drivers for a new WLAN chip used in the latest batch/revision of WeTek Hub hardware. There are no other feature or function changes since the v8.0.2 release. This change will roll-up into LibreELEC 8.2 scheduled for a July/August release.

LibreELEC (Krypton) v8.1.0 BETA

This is a BETA of our 8.2 release; a mid-year bump to enhance hardware support and capabilities. It adds 10-bit HEVC support for recent Intel GPU generations, Samba 4.6 which brings support for SMB2/SMB3, and several SSL issues are resolved in a switch to OpenSSL. We continue to refine firmware we embed; removing old and unused files to reduce image size while adding new drivers and firmwares based on team findings and user reports. Kodi is updated to 17.4-RC1 with minor bugfixes since v17.3.

LibreELEC (Krypton) 8.2.0 RELEASE

LibreELEC 8.2.0 provides a mid-year bump to improve hardware support on Intel and Raspberry Pi hardware. It also resolves minor support issues on a range of devices and fixes a number of important security issues affecting the core OS reported in recent months. Kodi is bumped to 17.5, and Samba bumps to 4.6 which brings support for SMB2/3 to LibreELEC for the first time. LibreELEC 8.2.1 is a maintenance release that includes Kodi 17.6. It also resolves a minor time-zone issue after recent daylight saving changes, a resume from suspend issue with the Apple IR driver, and it provides two new SMB client configuration options in Kodi settings. You can now set a minimum SMB protocol version to prevent prevent SMB1 from ever being used, and a â€˜legacy securityâ€™ option forces weak authentication to resolve issues seen with the USB sharing functions on some older router/NAS devices. If updating to LibreELEC 8.2 for the first time PLEASE READ THE RELEASE NOTES below here before posting issues in the forums as there are disruptive changes to Lirc, Samba, and Tvheadend.

As Kodi 17.6 has been declared the final Krypton release (no further updates) we also expect LibreELEC 8.2.1 to be the final 8.2 update. The team are now focussed on LibreELEC (Leia) 9.0 development.
